The incident took place at Gate C outside UT’s Stemmons Freeway in downtown Dallas during a planned march against high ticket prices and class sizes at the university.

The protesters’ actions caused police officers to appear to charge at them with batons and use police dogs.

In response to the violence, Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted that he was “outraged” by the scuffles.

In a statement, UT Dallas President David Bragdon said “potential violence, hate and intolerance” would not be tolerated and that the administration was “deeply troubled” by “a group of determined students protesting peacefully”, reported the Dallas Morning News.
