US rapper Cardi B has made a statement at the American Music Awards, and pulled off a secret stunt on the red carpet in Los Angeles.
She hid a huge golden mask under her silver dress at the top of the carpet.
Her surprise appearance came as the awards’ winners started to be announced on Twitter.
Before winning for Best New Artist, she posted a photo on Instagram wearing the jagged white mask that said “GOLD,” along with a gold message: “To all my people who inspire me. Thank you. Here’s the mask. To my audience. I love you guys so much.”

It seemed her fans will not have to wait too long to see a full picture of the futuristic mask. She tweeted: “Tuskegee [sic] Up In Here!!”
Consequence of Sound reports that Cardi B received the vote from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Other artists who opted for a mirrored outer shell at the awards were: Maren Morris, The Chainsmokers, Keith Urban and Khalid.
The American Music Awards are annually one of the most watched events on US television.
